Stump Removal Methods

Once you have cut down the tree from your yard, the big question is of the stump removal. You have to remove the tree stump so that no further growth of the tree could take place. For removal of the stump you can follow many methods which offer more or less the same results. Of the many stump removal methods we are discussing the few important ones.

Mechanical Method: Mechanical removal of tree stumps is as far the is the quickest method. In this, the stump grinding machines operate with a large flywheel outfitted with cutting teeth. The cutter head is moved over the stump, grinding it consistently. The stump grinders are available in many sizes, and some are designed to work in tight corners. Efficiency of the stump grinder depends on the size of the cutter head, machine power, and the efficiency of the operator.

Decomposition/Natural Method: depends on the chemical decomposition of the wood. After the tree removal, the stump gradually decays in the ground. This happens with the help of natural fungus and bacteria. This process can take a couple of years as it depends on the size of the tree stump, tree species, and soil conditions. This process can be stimulated by keeping the soil in the area moist, also by piling soil or mulch over the stump. In some cases nitrogen fertilizer is also added to the stump to speed up the process.

Digging Method: is another option for stump removal. Digging can be accomplished by using large equipment such as a backhoe. In most cases, in the digging process the main part of the stump is dug out, leaving the smaller roots in the ground to decay. The stump should be dug out to a depth that will allow the proper function of the area.
